The IRS imposes several 401k contribution limit guidelines on the amount that can be contributed to your 401k plans in a year. 401k plans allow you to make annual pre-tax contributions of up to$15,500 (in 2007). Those 50 and older can make pre-tax contributions of $20,500. Profit Sharing/ Employer match can increase tax-deferred 401k contributions up to $45,000 ($45,000 for those 50 and older).
